Teacher Profile

Renae comes from an Arts background. Originally from Cairns, she moved to Melbourne to study her BFA at the Victorian College of the Arts, majoring in printmaking and ceramics. After teaching art for a number of years, Renae became interested in the therapeutic effects of the creative process and completed postgraduate studies in Art Therapy at Latrobe University. This enabled her to move into community arts based projects in schools, youth detention centers, mental health and women’s groups.

Renae first began studying at the Yoga Arts Academy, Melbourne when she was nineteen. After a one-year period of dedication to daily practice under Sw. Jivan Prahlad, Renae was accepted into the three-year apprenticeship at the Yoga Arts Academy. This intensive training was focused on teaching from personal experience with emphasis on daily morning and afternoon yoga practice covering in detail the technical aspects of asana, pranayama and meditation under the guidance of Sw. Jivan Prahlad.

The Yoga Arts Academy teachers receive specialized training in individualized yoga tuition and extensive experience teaching courses, workshops and classes. The ancient yogic texts and aspects of yogic anatomy are also studied.

Renae has taught group and individualized yoga sessions full time for the past 8 years in Australia, Brazil, Japan, China and New York.

In 2005, Renae established Yoga Shala in Cairns and Black Mountain Yoga Retreat in Kuranda conducting classes, courses and workshops in Yoga, Art and Meditation.

Most recently in 2008, Renae completed foundation studies in anatomy and physiotherapy techniques at the University of Queensland.

Renae is now teaching in Brisbane and facilitating Living Arts Retreats in Australia and abroad.
